WHAT IS THE POINT OF A TRAILER

Trailers are an easy way of gaining a target audiences attention in order to get them to view your product, in terms of movies they use a number of interesting scenes from the movie itself to tease the audience, they add catch phrases and sound snippets to give the audience a taste of what to expect from the movie this doesn’t only leave them in suspense but it makes them feel as if they are in the movie itself in other words it sets some sort of atmosphere drawing the viewers mind into the trailer.

In some ways I would describe a movie trailer as a recorded flyer with moving images and sound, one thing I’ve noticed about movie trailers is that they always end with a cliff hanger this is to ensure that the viewers believe and realise that there is something more to expect, with action film trailers they could end with the protagonist in a tedious position, this doesn’t only leave the audience feeling sorry for them but evokes feelings of entrapment where once again it could leave the audience feeling as if they are in the actors shoes experiencing what’s going on. With horror film trailers they tend to finish off with a close up shot of the protagonist or just any shot of a victim walking away just like action films the directors want to draw the viewers attention in to the film, the difference between a horror film poster and an action film poster would be that an action film trailer displays dilemmas being solved with a hint of confusion and disruption; flashing and explosions leaving the audience in suspense, where as horror film trailers show an equilibrium with a spooky environment along with all over horror conventions to leave the audience spooked and wanting to see more this can leave some viewers thinking about what is yet to happen.
